Eat right, stay cool this summer

Eating doesn't always seem appealing during the summer months, but it's important that you stay nourished and hydrated to steer clear of heat-related health issues. Try these tasty options to help keep you cool during the dog days:

Raw fruits and vegetables have a high water ratio, which can help you keep hydrated in the heat. Veggies such as lettuce, watercress (see featured recipe), celery and cucumber, and fruits like tomatoes, grapes, melons and oranges will help you to refresh and rehydrate in the sweltering summer.

Cold soups are a perfect option because they are easy to digest, cool to eat and help to keep you hydrated. Many tomato- or potato-based soups can be served deliciously cold during the summer months.

Frozen yogurt is a healthier alternative to ice cream. Just as cooling and refreshing, but with less sugar and easier to digest, frozen yogurt is a great way to cool down. Pair your treat with some fresh fruit for a double dose of cool!

Mint is a cooling herb that can be added to almost anything - salads, pastas, soups, fresh juices, lemonade or iced tea. Mint has a natural cooling effect that can help you to reduce the temperature in hot weather.

New Requirements for US Passports

Remember, passports are now required for all travelers, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the U.S. and destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Bermuda. With the influx of passport applications, it's taking up to 12 weeks to obtain a passport, a process that used to take six weeks. U.S. citizens who don't yet have a passport can consider destinations like Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
